Hello, my name is Veronica and together with Matteo e Martina we have written the Gran Via del Devero official guidebook!
Born in Domodossola in 1997, from Cravegna (Crodo Municipality), she is a versatile artist – painter, sculptor, graphic designer – with studies at Brera Academy. Passionate about the mountains, an excellent climber and tenacious hiker, she has covered and re-covered the paths of the Gran Via del Devero, in search of hidden passages, variants, alternatives, and secrets of the ancient routes around her home, beneath Monte Cistella. An indefatigable and ingenious graphic designer, she has created everything beautiful that appears on the cover and in the pages of this guide. Martina – besides the graphic layout, the extensive work of mapping the route, and recording the GPX tracks – has worked on the revision of the contents, the verification of sources, and the technical data of sheets and readings.
Born in Milan in 1978, he divides his life between Como and Ossola Valley, where he and his wife Veronica bought a house in Cravegna. For many years he was an instructor of mountaineering and climbing at the CAI in Como. Together with Veronica he has traversed some of the most beautiful and challenging hiking trails in the world, from Patagonia to Iceland, the Himalayas to Morocco, and Réunion Island to Norway. Passionate about rock and ice climbing, he has mapped out several mountain bike routes in the province of Como, rediscovering and giving new life to ancient paths and old abandoned signs. A writer and sailor, he conceived the feasibility of the Gran Via del Devero and has hiked it back and forth to find the best logical sense for it. The texts in this guidebook are his.
Born in Como in 1978, she is a tenacious and passionate hiker and athlete (swimmer and long-distance cyclist). With Matteo, she shares a love for the Ossola valleys, where they bought their dream home. In a lifetime of hiking, she has reached almost all the refuges of the Orobie, the Alps of Italian Switzerland, and the Pre-Alps of the provinces of Como, Sondrio, Bergamo, and Varese, as well as having walked practically everywhere in Italy and the world (from Vietnam to California, from Alaska to Namibia). Her passion for maps, orientation, and meticulous planning of itineraries made it possible to embark on the discovery of the Gran Via being confident about finding the way, worked out beforehand with modern maps and ancient.
